Insomnia – Monster Mix

“Preparing for Peace”

Joe sat across from Nelly with a thoughtful expression.

“Nelly,” Joe said, “I saw your strange webpage with the alien demons and the Skull & Bones imagery. It felt like something from a sci-fi conspiracy movie.”

Nelly smiled. “Joe, you always find my most unusual stories.”

Joe nodded. “Maybe. But I’ve spent enough time in imaginary battles. I’ve been an XCOM soldier since the 1994 video game. We’ve simulated alien invasions, global wars, and the end of the world over and over again. At some point, we have to ask: are we preparing for peace, or are we just training ourselves for endless conflict?”

He paused and added, “The Romans had a saying: ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.’ But maybe the greatest preparation for peace is making sure people have strong bodies, healthy communities, and a planet worth protecting.”

Joe laughed. “Exactly. Maybe our training doesn’t have to be about real battles. We can have fun missions that keep us ready and healthy — like playing Justin Bieber and Drake laser tag games. Run around, use teamwork, get exercise, and have some laughs. If aliens ever showed up, at least we wouldn’t be sitting on the couch eating chips. We’d be fit!”

Nelly laughed. “So the new XCOM training program is music, movement, and friendship?”

“Exactly,” Joe said. “Less staring at screens, more running around outside. We’ve spent too much time indoors becoming COVID couch potatoes. It’s time to get fresh air, walk, exercise, and reconnect with the real world.”

Nelly nodded. “Maybe the best defense of Earth is a healthy civilization.”

Joe smiled. “The new mission: defend Earth by healing it.”

Together, they stepped outside — leaving the endless simulations behind and choosing a new kind of preparation: stronger bodies, stronger communities, and a healthier planet.

Nelly nodded. “A healthy world is worth defending.”

Joe smiled. “Exactly. The mission now is not to stay trapped in simulations. We need to get outside, breathe fresh air, walk, exercise, grow food, and reconnect with nature. We’ve spent too much time indoors becoming COVID couch potatoes.”

Nelly laughed. “Maybe the next great battle is against our own laziness.”

Joe grinned. “The new XCOM mission: defend Earth by healing it.”

Together, they stepped outside — leaving the virtual wars behind and choosing a different kind of victory: a healthier, more peaceful world.

Joe: “You know, Nelly, people spend so much time chasing success, money, and recognition, but sometimes we forget one of the simplest needs of the human heart — having someone beside you at the end of the day.”

Nelly: “You mean having someone to share the quiet moments with?”

Joe: “Exactly. A spouse or a loving partner is not just someone you celebrate with during the good times. They are the person who sits beside you when the world is quiet. When your mind is racing and sleep feels impossible, having someone who cares about you can bring comfort and peace.”

Nelly: “There is something special about not feeling alone.”

Joe: “Yes. A bedroom is more than just a place to sleep. It is a place where two people can share warmth, trust, and affection. A goodnight conversation, a hug, or simply knowing someone is there can help calm the worries of the day.”

Nelly: “So you think love is part of healing?”

Joe: “I think love, friendship, and human connection are powerful parts of a healthy life. We are social creatures. We need people who remind us that we belong. Sometimes the greatest medicine is knowing there is someone beside you who cares.”

Nelly smiled as the city lights continued to shine.

Nelly: “Maybe the dream is not just finding a place to sleep. Maybe it is finding a person who makes the place feel like home.”

Joe: “Exactly. A peaceful heart makes a peaceful night.”
